When I was a kid, and all through my teenage years, I’d be glued to the TV watching whatever’s on TV then. I used to skip through channels one by one, only to land on some rom-com on most days. We’re all a bit of a romantic at heart, and we’ve all sat through countless chick-flicks on love, marriages and everything that comes with it. Marriage is, no doubt, one of the major, life-altering events in one’s life. FWD Vivah made a list of 10 Wedding related movies that shaped our fantasies and set our standards when it came to marriages and the love that comes with it.

Bridesmaids (2011)
A classic and unique comedy. This one’s an absolute favorite among men and woman. Why? Because it’s hilarious, different, yet brutally honest in some ways as well. The movie directed Paul Feig stars Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy to name a few. It’s not a ‘typical’ chick-flick and has a depth that can touch hearts.
My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997)
Julia Roberts. What more can I say? It’s the typical tale of people who love each other but miss out on the other due to timing. The movie directed by P.J. Hogan follows Julianne Potter (Julia Roberts), and how she tries to break up a wedding after she realizes that she loves her best friend when he tells her he’s getting married. The movie also stars Cameron Diaz, Dermot Mulroney, and Rupert Everett in leading roles.
Bride Wars (2009)
What happens when two friends fall out because they’re both getting married, want the other to be their maid of honor at the same venue on the same date? A hilarious rom-com, that’s what! Starring Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway in leading roles, this movie focused on the friendship between the two brides.
27 Dresses (2008)
A very funny movie that features Katherine Heigl and James Marsden in lead roles. It’s as the tag reads, ‘Always a bridesmaid, never a bride’. Heigl plays the role of the forever bridesmaid who’s attended more than 27 weddings, the last being her sister’s who’s getting married to her long-time crush and boss.
Made of Honor (2008)
Patrick Dempsey plays the lead in this rom-com. Again, he realizes that he’s in love with his long term best friend Hannah (Michelle Monaghan) when she informs him that she’s getting married. She asks him to be her Maid of Honour and there starts his attempt to get her back.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)

Father of the Bride (1991)
A funny movie that shows the struggle of a Father who’s forced to come to terms with the fact that his baby has grown up, and has another man she prioritizes now. Steve Martin is stunning and hysterical in the role.
Sweet Home Alabama (2002)
I love this movie, mainly because it gives me major missing vibes. Sweet Home Alabama traces roots to a marriage that ended before it reached its full potential. It’s rediscovering home and yourself. The movie has Reese Witherspoon, Josh Lucas, Patrick Dempsey and Candice Bergen in lead roles.
The Proposal (2009)
Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds starrer The Proposal 2009 American romantic comedy film directed by Anne Fletcher. Sandra Bullock plays the soon to be deported Boss, and Ryan Reynolds, her assistant who is forced to marry her to avoid the deportation and save his job. What ensues is a funny, heart-warming tale of love in the countryside.
