THE JOURNEY
While you take a drive to the idyllic island, you’ll enjoy the tranquility of the area as it is inhabited only by a few people. It’s free from the cluster of tourists. If you’re in the mood for some photography during your honeymoon, capture a few stories. So many lost traditions are practiced here.
When you reach the Aquatic Floating Resort, the moment is picture perfect. The resort is spread amongst vast land, and you can see floating arched cottages with the traditional thatched roofs. The architectural marvel take you to both a traditional and futuristic awe. In the vast spread of 29 acres, 2.75 is land while the rest is an aquatic paradise. Unlike Bali cottages that are bolstered on bamboo sticks, these cottages float on watertight compartments. It’s a maiden architectural venture. The world celebrates it as the first floating concrete infinity resort.
HONEYMOON AGENDA
Enjoy morning in your eyes as you watch the sunrise on the undulant folds of the lake. Grab a pair of binoculars and spot a few birds. If you are lucky, you can spot a plethora of birds that are migrating. Take a ride to the verdant Pokkali rice paddy fields and enjoy the walk through the tricky field. Make sure you don’t fall, unless you do enjoy the laugh! Or you can go for the country boat ride scheduled in the morning and be prepared to fish. While the sun rays begin to sting, enjoy a swim in Asia’s first infinity pool. But if it’s all about rejuvenation, try an assortment of Ayurvedic treatments at the spa. Before the sun sets, slip into some comfortable clothes and check out your catch of the day. Head to the Chinese fishing nets and the fish farms to select the seafood, backwater and freshwater fishes. Get a hold of some tiger prawns or those naughty mud crabs or settle for the classic Karimeen.
Kumbalangi grama panchayath is known for its traditional food. For dinner, you’ll find your way to the restaurant; illuminated with myriads of lanterns. You can request the chef to prepare your choice of fish and he’ll put an ethnic twist into it. The restaurant has an open view as you enjoy the cuisine of the hamlet coastland. When the day comes to an end, enjoy the long walk on the bridge. You’ll fall in love the view of the star studded sky as you paddle away in a boat to your cottage.
YOUR STAY
At the Aquatic Floating resort, you are welcomed by cottages stationed on a floating deck called the flottil. Six of them are interconnected by a walkway and supported on pontoons. At first it looks like a simple cottage with curved thatch roofs, but as you walk into the room, it has three levels. Opening the door, you walk into the living room that is on par with the water level. Taking a flight of the stairs, it leads you to the sky or underwater. Going up, enjoy a lovely soiree on the high outdoor deck. Perfect at night, where you can catch the lucid constellations and enjoy music or have a dance. As you head downstairs, it leads to a partially immersed bedroom. The room has an indelible view, through the window, you’ll understand you’re underwater. The feeling of being carried away seems poetic, but your cottage can be detached, and you can float away to another part of the lake.
