Located on the shores of Lake Bracciano, the castle was built around a twelfth century observation tower by the Orsini family. Designed by Francesco of Giorgio Martini, the castle is considered to be one of the biggest and well maintained medieval castles in Italy. The castle with many rich friezes, colored tapestries and detailed ceilings, has an irregular triangular shaped courtyard. Gardens are also an integral part of the design.

Castello di Monterone

A castle that has withstood many wars and sieges, the Castello di Monterone is a testament to the vows made on the wedding day. Surrounded by a monastery and church, the castle was made a residence in 1600 by the Piceller family. The sand stone and brick structure was renovated with many artistic and architectural elements like mullioned windows, roses, balconies and bas reliefs. Its style evolved over the years and the castle has a great collection of artifacts.

Forte Di Belvedere

The largest Fort in Florence, the Forte di Belvedere was designed and built by Bernardo Buontalenti for the Grand Duke Ferdinando I de’ Medici. The design showed the power of the Medici family and the forts walls were made at an angle so that other walls could be seen and this aided in cross fires. The star shaped fort has hidden passage ways and a well that housed the family treasure. It is a good example of terraforming and offers breathtaking views. The expanse and fortification of these structures was a sign of the power of the family that ruled over the area.

Villa d’Este, Italy

Situated in a twenty five acre park, the Villa d’Este on the shores of Lake Como was the summer residence of the Cardinal of Como. Designed by Pellegrino Pellegrini, the villa has been used as a luxury hotel since 1873. The villa is known for its sprawling gardens has many terraces, walkways, stone fountains, a nymphaeum and a temple.

Palazzo Margherita

The Palazzo Margherita is a darling villa property that is owned by Francis Ford Coppola. The villa was restored with modern amenities, luxurious interiors by French designer Jacques Grange. Hand frescoed paintings, exotic tiles and furniture create an ambience of elegance.
